Press Release

George Adams Gallery will present a selection of paintings from the early 1970s by Joan Brown during September and October. Titled “Family and Friends,” this small exhibition will include portraits of Tinye van Arnsdale and a fellow student of her swimming coach named Eileen.  The show also features two large-scale, psychologically charged paintings, “Family Portrait” with the artist literally depicted as fish out of water, and the iconic self-portrait, “Self-Portrait with Fish.” In addition, two unusual anecdotal still-life paintings from this period will be on view.
