A Survey of Sculpture and Works on Paper 1991-2006
George Adams Gallery
Booth #B11
Art Dealers Association of America
THE ART SHOW
Park Avenue Armory at 67th Street, New York
February 22 - 26, 2007
George Adams Gallery is pleased to present a survey of sculpture and works on paper by LESLEY DILL at the 2007 Art Show. The annual fair, sponsored by the Art Dealers Association of America, takes place at the Park Avenue Armory at 67th Street in New York, February 22 - 26, 2007.
The gallery's booth will feature Dill's work in a variety of media dating from 1991 to 2006 and will include the debut of Divide Light (Healing Man), 2006, a 10-foot paper kite.
The earliest work in the show is Poem Suit (1991), a roughly molded suit form and one of Dill's first sculptures to reference the body through clothing in combination with language excerpted from Emily Dickinson. Other early works include a rare, complete suite of Dill's first print Poetic Body, 1992, as well as Seer (1993), a drawing by Dill depicting a portrait head covered with red painted eyes.
In addition, the booth will showcase Large Poem Dress (A Single Screw of Flesh), an oversized paper dress stamped with an Emily Dickinson poem. Both sculpture and costume, the dress was worn in a casual performance at a gallery opening in 1993.
The survey also presents two works from Dill's 1995-96 tea-stained tapestry series, the 1994 Landfall suite of prints Word Made Flesh, and the bronze multiple Dreamer (1998).
More recent works include Standing Man with Radiating Words (2006), a bronze figure pierced with large-scale letters and Dress of War and Sorrow, a black and silver metal foil dress comprised of cutout skeletal forms and styled in a haute-couture manner.
Please contact the gallery for additional information. Visuals of works in the exhibition are available on our website at www.georgeadamsgallery.com.
George Adams Gallery is pleased to present this survey in conjunction with the exhibition Lesley Dill: Tremendous World, currently on view at the Neuberger Museum, Purchase College, State University of New York. This one-person show presents four new large-scale works made specifically for the museum. Curated by DeDe Young and installed in the museum's "theater" gallery, the exhibition features Dill's largest pieces to date--a cut-out metal foil and fabric piece measuring 20 x 60 feet and a wire "waterfall" comprised of over two million strands of wire. A full color catalogue with an essay by Tom Patterson is available through museum. The exhibition runs through June 3, 2007. For more information, please visit the museum's website: www.neuberger.org.
