Congratulations to Luis Cruz Azaceta, who is the subject of a career retrospective at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, New Orleans, LA.
Luis Cruz Azaceta: What a Wonderful World brings together paintings, drawings, collage and sculptural works spanning over four decades. Azaceta began his career in the late 1960s; after emigrating to the United States as a Cuban exile at the age of 18, he soon moved to New York and graduated from the School of Visual Arts in 1969. In the years since, Azaceta has continuously evolved his process and style to resist mannerist repetition and predictability. A constant in his work, however, is his exploration of the human condition in all its forms, often depicting the worst aspects of humanity in hopes for a better future.
What a Wonderful World opens at the Ogden on Saturday, February 12, and will remain on view through July 24.
