Joan Brown, Roy De Forest and William T. Wiley are included in a group exhibition at the Albuquerque Museum, New Mexico. Featuring a selection of works on paper from the museum's collection, Cartoon Formalism examines the Funk aesthetic cultivated in Northern California in the 1970s. Moving away from the kind of abstraction that triumphed in New York at the time, these artists created work that is ironic and playful in appearance, while presenting serious psychological and personal subjects. The exhibition features over a dozen artists from the Bay Area as well as Los Angeles, such as John Altoon, Robert Colescott, and Richard Diebenkorn, among others. On view through Summer 2020.
