Enrique Chagoya at the San Francisco Center for the Book

Enrique Chagoya's Tales from the Conquest/Codex, 1992 on view at the San Francisco Center for the Book. Photo: Rae Alexander.

Split between the San Francisco Center For the Book and San Francisco's Main Library, this group exhibition is concerned with ways the invention of the photocopier impacted artists and activists, resulting in the creation of such innovations as photocopied collage art and zines. Chagoya’s Tales from the Conquest/Codex combines multiple photocopied collages and covers almost an entire wall of the exhibition. The images within the codex juxtapose reproductions of traditional Mexican art alongside figures and scenes from American popular and visual culture.

The exhibition will be on view through March 19, 2023.
