Enrique Chagoya is included in a group exhibition at the DePaul Art Museum, Chicago, IL.
LatinXAmerican features works from the museum’s collection to survey the range of contemporary Latin American artists working across the united states. Included in the exhibition is Chagoya’s 2008 lithograph Illegal Alien's Guide to the Concept of Relative Surplus Value. Chagoya illustrates the violence of war and colonization with a rapturous scene populated with hybrid monster-like creatures, cargo ships and indigenous figures, complete with cartoonish speech bubbles referencing Karl Marx’s 1867 text ‘Capital’ throughout.
The exhibition is on view through August 15, 2021. Find more information here.
