New Paintings and Works on Paper
| | Sep 17 - Oct 24, 1987 |
To open the new season, the Frumkin Gallery will show new work by Peter Saul. The exhibition includes five large-scale paintings and a group of acrylics on paper. The exhibition is documented by a catalogue reproducing all the works in the show in color and its text used excerpts from Saul's letters to his dealer from the past 20 years. This section also includes black and white reproductions of the paintings discussed.
The themes in the exhibition are familiar to those who have followed Peter Saul's development: Self-parody, male-female relationships and a pot shot or two at the art world. The painting itself, however, has changed. These new works are more brushed, the color relationships intensified and the forms more volumetric. The new paintings have become opulent - a term rarely applied to work by this artist.
The Peter Saul exhibition will open September 17th and close on October 24th. The Frumkin Gallery is open Tuesday through Friday 10 to 6, and from 11 to 5:30 on Saturdays.
