The Irreverent Spirit In Current Painting and Sculpture Jan 7 - Jan 29, 1994 Masters of Mischief II� has its Roman numeral because it is the sequel to a 1985 exhibition. That show, which had the same title, was confined to painting. One reason for doing a sequel was to include sculpture. The other reason was to show the continued vitality of work in this spirit. The 1985 exhibition included the following artists: Robert Colescott, Peter Dean, Rafael Ferrer, Dan Freeman, Jim Gingerich, Red Grooms, Charles Parness, Peter Saul and Robert Warrens. The current show has these artists: Luis Benedit, Roy DeForest, Jeremyl Eagle, Elliot Green, Gaylen Hansen and Bruce Widdows. Of the exhibiting artists, three are young and not well-known, while three are older and relatively well-known. The works on view are almost equally divided between painting and sculpture. Their common thread, as the subtitle indicates, is a humor and/or irreverence that is unmistakable. Two of the artists in the exhibition work on the West Coast, one works in Argentina, one in Baltimore and two here in New York. In the Drawing Gallery there will be an exhibition of drawings and works on paper by the artists participating in Masters of Mischief II.� The exhibition will open on January 7th and run through January 29th. The Frumkin/Adams Gallery is open from 10 to 6, Tuesday through Friday and from 10 to 5:30 on Saturdays.
